DA Archive
New York Intergroup

Since DA started in the mid 1970s our Archives consisting of administrative documents, period literature and vintage handwritten meeting lists were floating around the City from person to person, home to home, in shopping bags, file folders and large manila envelopes.

Starting today we are happy, under the auspices of the New York Intergroup, to formulate the mission of the DA Archives, modeled on AA’s Archives, as an effort to document permanently the work of Debtors Anonymous, make the history of our organization here in New York City accessible to DA members and other researchers, and to provide a context for understanding DA's progression, its principles and traditions.  Courtesy of the Abundance Group of DA the Archives will be kept at the Gracie Square Hospital (426 East 76th Street, New York, NY 10021) where they can be viewed in Room 100, by appointment, on Mondays at 8 PM. Appointments must be made in advance with the New York Intergroup’s Archive Coordinator here at archivist@danyc.info.

Consistent with DA’s primary purpose of establishing and maintaining our solvency, living abundant lives and helping other debtors achieve recovery, the New York Intergroup DA Archives will:

  • Receive, classify, and index all relevant material, such as administrative files and records, correspondence, meeting lists, publications, and literary works and artifacts considered to have historical importance to DA;
  • Hold and preserve such material;
  • Provide access to these materials, as determined by the Archive Coordinator in consultation with the Intergroup to members of DA and to others who may have a valid need to review such material, contingent upon a commitment to preserve the integrity of all materials;
  • Serve as a resource and laboratory to stimulate and nourish learning;
  • Provide information services to assist the operations of  DA;
  • Promote knowledge and understanding of the origins, goals and programs of DA.

The New York Intergroup Archive is presently in development, so be sure to keep coming back here for additions and improvements! You can help us as through donation of historical material. We welcome you, your support, and your submission of additional DA historical items. All written submissions must be sent to: The New York Intergroup Archive, PO Box 452, Grand Central Station, New York, NY 10163.  Electronic submissions can be sent to archivist@danyc.info.
